a brief history

Kara is a writer, dramaturg, and producer based in Brooklyn, NY. Their plays have been developed at The Bushwick Starr, The Brick, NYC Fringe, Brooklyn Art Haus, Fresh Ink Theatre, Wunderbar, Williams/Williamstown Theatre Festival, and more. Kara has served as a historical consultant for television projects in development with Jeff Augustin, Apple TV, Hulu, and Element Pictures. They have dramaturged new work at The Brick, Whitney Center for the Arts, and Ohio State University. 

Kara was a 2025 Lambda Playwriting Fellow and a member of The Bushwick Starr’s 24-25 Reading Series. Other recognitions include the Queerly Award at NYC Fringe, Hutchinson Fellowship in Theatre, Graver Prize in Theatre Criticism, Dunbar Writing Prize, and Bullock Poetry Prize.

Kara holds a B.A. in Theatre and History from Williams College. By day, she works at Playwrights Horizons, where she serves as an editor for the literary magazine Almanac.
